ABSTRACT

This chapter sets out to introduce language for special purposes (LSP) and to describe some of the ways in which it is different from language for general purposes (LGP). In addition to discovering why it is useful to learn about LSP, you will find out about different types of LSP users and their particular needs. You will also be introduced to ways in which a corpus can help you to identify the features of an LSP and to acquire the knowledge you need in order to be able to communicate effectively in an LSP.
