ABSTRACT

AIDS meets home care in Germany When a hitherto unknown contagious disease suddenly turned up about two decades ago in the form of AIDS, the pressure exerted on society soon became enormous. Although the belief that AIDS was an American phenomenon of little relevance to Germany prevailed initially at the political level (Frankenberg, 1994), this soon proved to be fallacious. The first cases of AIDS were reported in Germany in 1982: only one year later than in the US.
