ABSTRACT
This method of measuring building works was agreed between the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and the National Federation of Building Trades Employers, now Building Employers Confederation.
The Fifth Edition of the Standard Method of Measurement was published in the Autumn of 1962, and became operative on 1 March 1963. The Fifth Edition Metric, published in 1968, was a conversion of the basic Imperial edition and not a revision.
