ABSTRACT
Road transport is used widely for transport of hazardous materials. Some of this is in containers with limited capacity, some in bulk transport tankers. The quantities involved are very large; most of the gasoline product produced in refineries for example are at some stage transported by tank truck. By comparison with most road traffic, the frequency of accidents for these transports is relatively low. Transport nevertheless represents one of the most significant major hazard risks.
