ABSTRACT

The campaign to save Twyford Down from destruction by the M3 motorway was begun one day in March 1985. A chance lunchtime meeting between my husband, Dudley, and one of his colleagues at Hampshire County Council, Merrick DentonThompson, who was the County Council’s landscape architect, was to lead to the start of our eight-year crusade against the Government’s plan to destroy Twyford Down.
