ABSTRACT
The philosophy and basic methods for the design of groundwater lowering systems are outlined in this chapter. The main emphasis of this chapter, and indeed of most of this whole book, is to deal with field proven, simplistic but practical, methods applicable to many common situations, while providing advice on the approach to more complex problems.
