ABSTRACT
Groundwater lowering operations may affect water levels over a wide area, which can extend for some distance beyond the construction site itself. In many cases this will not cause problems, but there are some circumstances when undesirable side effects may arise. This chapter outlines some potential side effects of groundwater lowering, the conditions in which they may occur and possible mitigation measures, including artificial recharge systems.
