ABSTRACT

Since the late twentieth century, Western aid policy and development thinking has been dominated by the doctrine of global neoliberalism. The policy of global neoliberalism is presented as the main recipe for development. The final chapter of this book explores the link between this global policy and the rise of new patterns of violent conflict (the socalled ‘internal’, ‘intra-state’ or simply ‘contemporary’ conflicts). The main question addressed in this chapter is if, and if so, how processes of global neoliberalisation connect with the recent rise of new patterns of violent conflict.
