ABSTRACT

A very rapid absorption occurs after the inhalation of cannabis smoke. THe is detectable in plasma only seconds after the first puff. Only 15 to 50 percent of the THe in the cannabis cigarette reaches the systemic circulation due to loss by pyrolysis (about 30 percent), remaining THe in the butt (10 to 20 percent), loss by sidestream smoke, and by incomplete absorption and metabolism in the lung. Heavy, experienced smokers show a more than two-fold higher systemic bioavailability than light, occasional smokers resulting from a higher efficiency of inhalation technique. For CBD and eBN a bioavailability of 31 ± 13 percent and 38 percent (mean) has been measured, respectively.
