ABSTRACT

Cannabis is a veritable chemical factory, producing hundreds of compounds.3s Mechoulam et a1. 20 suggested that the noncannabinoid constituents in herbal cannabis may work by multiple mechanisms to influence THC activity. Carlini et al.? determined that cannabis extracts produced effects "two or four times greater than that expected from their THC content," based on animal and human studies. Similarly, Fairbairn and Pickens10 detected the presence of unidentified "powerful synergists" in cannabis extracts, causing 330 percent greater cataleptic activity in mice than THC alone.
