ABSTRACT

Peroxisome-proliferator-induced liver enlargement in rats and mice is due to both hepatocyte hypertrophy and hyperplasia (Reddy and Lalwani, 1983; Lock et al., 1989; Moody et al., 1991). Several studies have implicated a role for increased cell replication in the hepatocarcinogenicity of peroxisome proliferators (Smith-Oliver and Butterworth, 1987; Butterworth et al., 1987; Marsman et al., 1988; Popp and Marsman, 1991) and some of these data will be briefly considered below.
