ABSTRACT
In 1995, Shell became embroiled in the most analysed and oft-cited CSR controversy of the 1990s: the Brent Spar affair. After years of research, the British government finally gave Shell UK permission to sink the old and defunct oil platform off the Scottish coast. Like David against Goliath, Greenpeace entered the battle to prevent Shell from using the ocean as a rubbish dump.
