ABSTRACT

In May 2001, INGOs such as Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth and People & Planet called upon US oil giant ExxonMobil to account for its negation of international environmental regulations to slow down global climate change. The perception of ExxonMobil as the number one global warming villain prompted INGOs to launch the Stop ExxonMobil Campaign. They believe that climate change will continue unabated as long as ExxonMobil controls the US policy on energy and climate change. Activists and concerned citizens in the US, Australia, UK and the rest of the world demand that ExxonMobil end its sabotage of international efforts to combat global climate change, support mandatory reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and invest in renewable energy technologies.
