ABSTRACT

The BBC is at the forefront of this digital revolution. In its manifesto for the future published in June 2004 in the lead-up to the renewal of its Charter in 2005, the BBC says it intends:

to be at the leading edge of the new era and is building its case on free services . . . the BBC stands for public value and this may involve taking a large share of the responsibility for creating a digital Britain – not just for its own services, but on behalf of the public and the rest of the industry.
