ABSTRACT

China is abundant in geological and cave resources, attracting hundreds of foreign cavers and organized expeditions each year. The Karst Dynamics Laboratory (KDL) in Guilin, a karst-rich city in southern China, has led karst studies in China. The major research goals of this lab include basic theory in karstology, rehabilitation of rocky desertification, development and harnessing of karst water resources, and geological hazards prevention. Paleoenvironmental reconstructions using karst records have been especially useful, with KDL establishing continuous records for southern China for the past 36 ka (https://www.karst.edu.cn/, 1995-2002).
