ABSTRACT

The nival/corrosive class includes shafts formed as a result of corrosion by snow meltwater. There is a close correlation between these caves and stages of Quaternary glaciations. More than 360 such caves are known. The largest are the KuryuchAgai, Inzhenernaya, and Vodyanaya shafts, each nearly 100 m deep. In 40 of these caves there are long-term bodies of snow and ice with a total volume of up to 10000 m3.
