ABSTRACT

A record produced ca. 1923 by the Olympic Disc Record Corp. for sale in Ross Stores, Inc. The catalog series is the same as that of the Olympic label, suggesting an affiliation between Olympic and Majestic, but they did not entirely duplicate each other. [Rust 1978.]

A record issued by Majestic Records, Inc., of New York, a subsidiary of the Majestic Radio and Television Co. (St. Charles, Illinois), from 1945 to 1947. The output consisted of pop, jazz, country and western, and gospel material. Majestic bought the Hit label (the Classic Record Co.) from Eli Oberstein and continued issuing Hit concurrently with the new Majestic, while also reissuing Hit material on Majestic. The new label was immediately successful, sparked by the Eddy Howard recording of “To Each His Own”

(#1070; 1946). Other artists on Majestic included Louis Prima, Ray McKinley, Jimmie Lunceford, Jack Leonard, Ella Logan, and Jimmie Durante. Former New York Mayor Jimmy Walker was president of Majestic Records, Inc.; John Hammond was recording director from 1946. Around 1949 Mercury Records acquired the Majestic catalog. [Porter 1978/12 is a label listing.]

A Chicago firm established in 1916, maker of the Majestic line of record players in five models. Shortly thereafter, the firm appears to have moved to New York City, where it launched a record label. The firm seems to have ceased operation after 1917.
