ABSTRACT
Devices that showed illustrations as accompaniment to records played in coin-op phonographs during the early years of the 20th century. Some of the brand names were Illustraphone (Hawthorne & Sheble), Cailophone, and Scopephone (both by Caille Brothers), and the Illustrated Song Machine (Rosenfield Co., New York). The Discophone was the first in use with disc players in the U.S.; it was made by the Valiquet Novelty Co., Newark, New Jersey.
