ABSTRACT

A German firm, established in Leipzig around 1890 as a music box maker. It began to issue disc records with the Polyphon label in 1905, and also made talking machines. By act of the German government, it took over the holdings of Deutsche Grammophon AG, the German branch of the Gramophone Co., on 24 Apr 1917. In 1924 the Anglo-German Arbitration Tribunal restored privileges to Deutsche Grammophon.
