ABSTRACT

Max Ettlinger & Co., of Long Acre, England, marketed Discal postcards in March 1905. In June of the same year Zonophone GmbH advertised singing postcards, and a few days later there was advertising from M. Taubert & Co. of Berlin for postcard records. Ettlinger was still selling the cards in May 1908. Such cards could be played on a standard turntable, but needed a clamp to keep them from slipping. Postcard records became common throughout the industry, and were issued in both 33 1/3-and 45-rpm speeds.
