ABSTRACT

New York-based, low-priced record, not related to the British one above, made from Emerson and Plaza masters. At first (1921) it sold records, for $0.50 each, to department stores, but in 1922 the discs were offered to merchant dealers. Important artists appeared on Regal, including the Original Memphis Five, Noble Sissle, Eubie Blake, Cab Calloway, Duke Ellington, Ben Selvin, and Vincent Lopez. Little Tots Nursery Tunes was a series of seven-inch records, three in an album, sold in March 1923; at that time the claim was made that Regals were being made in the world’s third-largest record factory.
