ABSTRACT

Born Martin David Robinson, in Glendale, Arizona, Robbins was both a country and pop star in the late 1950s, but is best remembered for his country recordings. Robbins’s family moved to Phoenix when he was

12, where he attended high school and began playing the guitar. After serving in the Navy in World War II, Robbins returned home and began performing locally. By the early 1950s, Marty was hosting a local radio station show, which led to his signing with Columbia Records. Robbins released his first single for Columbia in 1952, and a year later joined the Grand Ole Opry, where he remained a member for 29 years until his death.
