ABSTRACT

Italian baritone, born in Pisa as Ruffo Cafiero Titta (he later chose to reverse the elements of his name). He studied in Rome and Milan and made a debut in Rome as the Herald in Lohengrin (1898). Then he appeared throughout Italy, in Rio de Janeiro, Vienna, Paris, London, and Philadelphia. Finally he was heard at the

Metropolitan Opera on 19 Jan 1922, as Figaro in Barbiere di Siviglia; he remained with the company to 1928. He returned to Rome, and then settled in Florence, where he died.
