ABSTRACT

American popular vocalist, born in Coalinga, California. She and her sister made youthful appearances on radio as a singing team; then she joined the Pied Pipers and sang with them in the Tommy Dorsey band from 1940. Later she was a soloist with Dorsey, left in 1942 to freelance, and made many radio appearances, notably on Your Hit Parade. In 1943 and 1945 she was winner of the Downbeat poll as favorite female vocalist. She was married to Paul Weston, and made several entertaining parody records with him. After 1960 she was less active.
