Over 120 million people worldwide suffer from diabetes and 85 percent of diabetes-related amputations are preceded by foot ulcer. Understanding the causes of this catastrophe, identifying the sufferers and those at high risk and developing effective preventive strategies and remedies for its consequences has become a major preoccupation with diabetologists in recent years.
