ABSTRACT
Psychology.—Although cognitive psychiatry designates a set of theories and methods that has been expanding considerably since the 1970s, the term is still rarely employed. It refers to the branch of psychiatry where the study of the mechanisms of information processing and decision making is applied to the mental disorders observable in a psychiatric clinic (→COMPUTATIONAL ANALYSIS, INFORMATION). It is based on the principle that alterations in these mechanisms can partially account for psychiatric disorders.
