ABSTRACT

To perform a competent evaluation and render an informed decision, a forensic psychiatrist must know how psychiatric disorders, under the influences of culture, may vary in manifestation and clinical course. For this reason, we elaborate in this chapter on the cultural aspects of psychiatric disorders, particularly for certain psychopathologies, which often give rise to forensic problems, such as psychopathy, psychoses, delusional disorders, substance abuse, sexual disorders, and dissociation. We aimed this chapter primarily at persons who are relatively unfamiliar with cultural psychiatry, including professionals from other disciplines.
