ABSTRACT

This handbook for primary subject managers of mathematics is one of a series of new publications that tackle the complex issues of managing the primary school curriculum.

This handbook deals with specific issues whilst at the same time providing an overview of general themes in the management of the mathematics curriculum. The term subject manager is used in an inclusive sense and combines the two major roles that teachers play when they have responsibility for the mathematics curriculum. The handbook deals with: coordination; a role which emphasises; harmonising,

bringing together, making links, establishing efficient routines and common practice,

subject leadership; a role which emphasises; providing information, offering expertise and direction, guiding the development of the subject, raising standards.
