ABSTRACT
Inversion as a term to describe homosexual desire entered British scientific discourse in 1897, when Havelock Ellis and John Addington Symonds published their book Sexual Inversion. The term probably circulated in English thought for at least some time before that as well, but Ellis and Symonds’s book marks its most major and respected articulation as a psychological term.
