chapter  III
Hmong American Health Care in Colorado
Pages 41

MUCH OF THE RESEARCH FOR THIS BOOK WAS CONDUCTED IN THE Hmong community in Colorado, a community principally centered on the following cities: Arvada, Denver, Westminster, Federal Heights, Northglenn, Thorton, Broomfield, Boulder, Lafayette, and Brighton, with primary concentrations in Arvada, Westminster, Broomfield and Lafayette.1

According to statistics presented in the Denver Post, the Hmong population within the delineated area numbers about seven thousand, with ninety-five percent of Hmong adults working.2 Employment is primarily in low-paying, unskilled, assembly positions, although the few young adults in their twenties and thirties who have been educated in this country have, for the most part, found entry into professional positions such as accountancy, nursing, teaching, business, computer specialties, and so on.
