ABSTRACT

The main aim of this chapter is to show that the Cambridge tradition, as far as the market-happiness-sociality nexus is concerned, follows Smith’s approach.

Right from its beginning, Malthus, “the first of the Cambridge economists” (Keynes 1933: 95-149), showed special attention to the wealthhappiness nexus, an attention that represents an element of continuity in the English classical tradition from Smith, to Malthus, to Marshall.
