Hepatitis B virus Virology : HBV belongs to the Hepadnaviridae family, and contains a small, partially dsDNA genome, which encodes surface (HBsAg) and core (HBcAg) proteins, and a DNA polymerase enzyme with reverse transcriptase activity. HBeAg is also derived from the core gene.
