ABSTRACT

It is important to point out that we have seen that the inertia of an object (by virtue of its mass) determines the force needed to produce a given acceleration of the object. Gravitational mass determines the force of attraction between two bodies. In mechanics the value referred to as the Newtonian gravitational constant is the gravitational force that exists between two 1 kg objects separated by a distance of 1 m. Hence 6.67 × 10-11 Newtons of force is an exceptionally small attractive force.
