ABSTRACT
Long encumbered by separate regulatory systems, the European Union (EU, formerly the European Community) is now in the process of unifying its approach toward regulation of a variety of industrial products, including medical devices. The intent of the EU is to create an internal market that is open to the free movement of goods, persons, services, and capital.
