ABSTRACT
It is important to establish a clear definition of healthcare technology. Some organizations employ a broad definition, embracing most aspects of health treatment, including pharmaceuticals, devices, and medical procedures. Such a broad treatment is appropriate for many purposes; however, a more focused definition of healthcare technology needs to be adopted for this book. The Health Care Technology Institute defines healthcare technology as those products that fall into three specific categories: medical devices, diagnostic products, and healthcare information systems (Briones p. 3).
