ABSTRACT

As reflected in the age-old and familiar poem, stereotypical assumptions about fundamental differences between the genders have been long-standing and widespread. There is, however, a significant body of existing and continually evolving empirical literature within the medical and social sciences that supports the existence of gender differences across a variety of domains. It is this research, coupled with the popular press, that has, to some extent, fuelled an increased awareness and popularity of the examination of gender differences over the past several decades.
