ABSTRACT

For that reason a comparison of cancer risk within a cohort of subfertile women is necessary for making a valid assessment of the independent effect of causes of subfertility. Only two such studies were large enough to analyze the effect of the cause of subfertility on cancer risk. The results are shown in Table 211,12. The odds ratios for ovarian cancer were not significantly increased in women with subfertility: with tubal disease, idiopathic subfertility or ovulation disorders. One group found a 2.4 increased risk for ovarian cancer in patients with polycystic ovaries12. Based on the confidence interval this increase was on the edge of significance.
