ABSTRACT

The psychological and emotional aspects of using assisted reproductive technologies (ART), particularly in vitro fertilization (IVF), have been intensely studied since the first successes were recorded in the late 1970s and early 1980s. From a psychological perspective, the main complication arising from ART treatment is deterioration in life quality. The aim of this chapter is to summarize research from a variety of studies examining the effect of ART treatment on psychosocial well-being as well as the effect of psychosocial factors on ART progress and outcome.
