ABSTRACT

A survey on the etiology of infertility carried out on publications appearing in the 1960s and 1970s (6814 couples) on the one hand, and reports published in the 1980s and 1990s (9100 couples) on the other, revealed a rather similar prevalence of different diagnostic categories: ovulation disorders in 24 and 28%, semen anomalies in 27 and 23%, tubal infertility in 25 and 20%, idiopathic infertility in 17 and 22% and endometriosis and other causes of infertility in 7 and 7% of couples, respectively.
