ABSTRACT
The categorical description of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) set out in the DSM IV classi®cation is excessive anxiety that occurs on more days than not for a period of at least six months. The anxiety and worry are out of proportion to the probability of an unfortunate event and/or an exaggeration of the seriousness of the event should it occur.
