ABSTRACT

In the Thomas-Fermi atom model [81, 82] there exists the so-called ThomasFermi equation

u′′(x) =

√ u3(x)

x , (9.1)

subject to the boundary conditions

u(0) = 1, u(+∞) = 0 (9.2) in the common case. The Thomas-Fermi atom model views the electrons in an atom as a gas and derives atomic structure in terms of the electrostatic potential and the electron density in the ground state. Equation (9.1) describes the spherically symmetric charge distribution concerning a multi-electron atom.
