ABSTRACT

As a therapist, you have the power to help your clients, one at a time, end the unrealistic expectations about thinness that lead to dieting and compulsive eating. There is an interactive effect between individuals and culture; people take in ideas from culture about what is desirable, but as personal ideas are transformed, so too is our society. It is with great hope that future generations will be free from the obsession with food and weight that we offer ideas to be used by therapists in private practice, social service agencies, schools, and

hospitals that can convey healthier messages about eating behavior and body size to specific clients and society at large.
