ABSTRACT
Comparisons between Cuba before and after the revolution and between socialist Cuba and other countries in Latin America during the years of Castro’s rule permit an objective assessment of the ways that the island’s social transformation was and was not of consequence. Table 8.1 (see Appendix) provides a summary of how Cuba fared on social and economic indicators three decades after the revolution.
