ABSTRACT

There are many reasons for addressing this occupational injury problem in healthcare settings. They include the impact of the disability on the worker and his or her family, the impact of the lost worker to patient care and loss of continuity of care to the patients, and of course the ever-increasing financial burden to everyone. As the healthcare industry continues to strive for cost-saving opportunities, many are viewing the worker compensation costs, medical costs, and associated indirect costs of occupational injuries as an opportunity for significant cost savings. In addition, improving this situation can also result in enhanced quality of life for workers and quality of care for patients.
