ABSTRACT
This chapter is devoted to genetic systems in the P. aurelia complex based on the presence of symbiotic bacteria in Paramecium. Obviously, such mechanisms are very different from the standard genetic system based on DNA-containing genes in the nucleus. As will be shown in this chapter, such systems are common in Paramecium. Moreover, they have caused much discussion in the past.
