ABSTRACT

Interface design is an evolving discipline. Many of the innovations that are possible in interface design today are a result of improvements in the technology of displays, graphics cards, and graphical software. The cycle of how we apply the technology, followed by new capabilities, followed again by a new application, sets up a continuous march of progress into the future. How to use these technological enablers to our advantage is an exciting question. As technology continues to evolve and remove constraints on what can be designed, computer interfaces should defy the imagination in terms of the creative ways in which they can support human work. It is against this backdrop of ever-evolving and improving technology that we present the ideas of Ecological Interface Design (EID).
