ABSTRACT

CALKINS, MARY WHITON Mary Whiton Calkins (1863-1930), prominent selfpsychologist and absolute personalist idealist, spent the duration of her career at Wellesley College, until her retirement from her position as Full Professor of Psychology and Philosophy in 1929. She began her career at Wellesley as Instructor of Greek after finishing her BA (1885) and MA (1887) from Smith College and publishing her first book Sharing the Profits (1888). At Harvard, she fulfilled all requirements for a PhD in psychology in 1895. Study under William James, Josiah Royce, and Hugo Mu¨nsterberg was influential in the development of her psychology and philosophy.
