ABSTRACT
The human lymphatic system is a complicated, multifunction network of lymphatic channels and lymph nodes. This system helps maintain interstitial and intravascular equilibrium, helps clear the body of various types of particulate matter, and plays a crucial immunologic role in the body’s response to infection and cancer. The purpose of this chapter is to provide an overview of the lymphatic system with emphasis on how it relates to lymphatic mapping.
