ABSTRACT

We are familiar with the adage “Time is money,” but the question is: “How much money?” One way of looking at this is the revenue value of a single day in the patented life of a drug on the worldwide market. For a blockbuster this is estimated at US$ 2.7 million. Thus every day that you can advance the project is worth the same to the company. Conversely, delays on completion of development are extremely expensive, and can even threaten the commercial viability of a product. This is because in addition to loss of patented market life, competitor products will be launched which diminish market share of the product and further erode its revenue capacity.
