ABSTRACT

WALTER FREDERICK LEVER was born December 13, 1909 in Erfurt, Germany. Both he and his twin brother, Kurt, became dermatologists, following their father, Alexander Lever, Chief of Dermatology at the Municipal Hospital in Erfurt. After receiving his M.D. from the University of Leipzig in 1934, Lever moved to Boston in 1936 where he took a residency at Massachusetts General Hospital. This was followed by service at the Harvard Medical School where he sighted a new disease, bullous pemphigoid.
